Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo
It might seem a little sad to some, but this is my first (and as of July 2012, still my only) Cuckoo. This one I shot at the Western Treatment Plant. It wasn't a great day (but at least the rain held off for an hour). When looking for Cuckoos, you can actually hear the 'cuckoo' call (like the clock), but to tell if it's a Cuckoo (and this doesn't apply to all of them as I look through the Pizzy), often they will have striped fronts as demonstrated in these pictures.
Spurwinged Plover (Masked Lapwing)
Growing up I always knew this bird to be a plover. They can be found in graslands, swamp margins, paddocks with dams, beaches, airfields, gardens and even flat, not often used roads. I always thought that these were silly birds. They used to nest in the primary school oval every year which would allow older children to play tricks on the younger ones by telling them to go look at the birds eggs - the result, lots of swooping and the angry 'keekeekee' call of the plover.
White-Fronted Chat
It seems to me that this little bird can come in a variety of phases (check out my unidentified page, I thought I'd found two other birds... but nope, I was wrong, they were all White-Fronted Chats.
Anyway, these photos were taken at the Western Treatment Plant.
